Part 2 : Swara ?

In the Party

The party is going on in full swing. Everyone is busy either chatting, drinking, or eating. The Maheshwari family is busy greeting the guests.

DP (comes on stage): Hello, everyone. I want to thank everyone for coming to celebrate with us. As you all know, this is a welcome party for our pride, our son Sanskar. And I am so proud to announce that he is in the top 10 young businessman list in the US and the top 1 young businessman in India. I request you all to applaud for our pride, our son. And thanks to Sanskar, our industry has reached new heights in the US. (Everyone clapped for Sanskar)

Sanskar was talking with some businessmen when Ram came towards him.

Ram: Hello, everyone. (After some formal talking) Sorry, but can you please excuse us?

The businessmen left them alone. Ram brings Sanskar to one person.

Ram: Mr. Gadodiya, meet my son Sanskar, the CEO of Maheshwari Industries.

Mr. Gododiya: I am glad to see you, Mr. Maheshwari. I have heard a lot about you.

Sanskar: Thank you, sir. I have also heard a lot about you.

DP comes towards them: Sanskar, he is not only our business partner but has also become our close family friend. You should call him uncle. There is no need for formalities.

Shekhar: It's OK, Bhaisa. If Mr. Ram Maheshwari is calling me formally, then how can Sanskar call me uncle? Both Ram and Shekhar eye each other and turn their faces.

DP (helplessly shaking his head): Stop acting like children. You two are grown-up men. You can't be annoyed by each other just because of some silly games.

Ram: Bhaisa, but because of him only, we lost the game.

Shekhar: Huh? You are the one who can't play properly. That's why we lost.

(Before Ram can say anything) DP (in a stern voice): Both of you, shut up. Act like grown-up men. You are at a party.

Shekhar: Bhaisa, it is only because of you that I will not say anything.

Sanskar is enjoying seeing his father's banter with his new friend.

Someone came and interrupted them, and they got busy in business talk.

The next morning

In the hall, all the elderly are sitting and talking with each other or scolding Ram. (However, any guesses as to why?)

Sujatha: We have given you one task. You can't even complete that. Huh. What should I do with this man? (Shaking her head).

Ram (sulking on his face): Sujatha, I have already told you, there are so many businessmen. I don't have time for that talk.

DP: Yeah, you are busy arguing like a child.

Annapurna: Just leave the party topic now and think about how we can talk about that topic with Sanskar. Even if Sanskar has given us acceptance, I don't think he will accept this alliance in this situation. You all remember his condition, right?

Sujatha: Yes, Jiji, you are correct. We should think of ideas instead of wasting time on someone who can't even do simple things.

Ram: Simple thing! If that is really a simple thing, then you go and talk. Why are you behind me?

Before Sujatha can say anything, DP interrupts and says something to them. They all agreed and went towards the breakfast table.

On the breakfast table

DP, gaining everyone's attention.

DP: Sanskar, are you really ready for marriage?

Sanskar: Yes, Bade papa. I am ready to get married. I believe that you will find the best girl for me, but I want to see if we really match each other or not before making my final decision. Hope you don't mind.

Ram: It's your marriage. Of course, we don't have any objections. We don't mind if you do a love marriage.

Adarsh: Yes, Sanskar, just tell us if you have someone in mind. Because it does not matter if you do a love or arranged marriage; you are the one who has to bear it for your whole life. (Murmuring slowly, looking towards Parineeta) Like me.

Parineeta: I can listen even if you murmur slowly. Who said you have to propose to me? I haven't forced you (showing anger).

Adarsh: Are, who said I am talking about us, I am talking about my friends. You know how much I love you, right? (Showing an innocent face)

Sanskar (teasingly): Ohh, Bhai, who is that friend of yours?

Adarsh (angrily looking at Sanskar and shifting his gaze to Parineeta, mumbling): Wo... wo you don't know that friend.

Laksh (with a mischievous smile): It's ok if we don't know, but I think Bhabhi knows all your friends. Right Bhabhi?

(Parineeta nods, looking toward Adarsh, who is looking like he is caught red-handed.)

Everyone laughs, looking at Adarsh's condition.

Advik (Adarsh's son, 5 years old. A naughty and smart kid. Apple of everybody's eyes): Chachu, are you getting married? If so, then finally I can take a holiday from school.

Parineeta (holding Advik's ears): There is a lot of time until Chachu's wedding. You quickly finish your breakfast and go to school. Don't make excuses.

Advik pouts sadly.

Sanskar: Champ, I will pick you up after school, and we will go to the PlayStation at the mall.

Advik (with excitement): Yeah. I love you, Chachu. (Giving a flying kiss to Sanskar).

After some minutes,

Ram: Sanskar, do you remember Shekhar uncle?

Sanskar: Yes, you introduced me yesterday at a party, right?

DP: Yes, he has a younger daughter. We have all met her, and we all like her. We have already talked to him about marriage. If you want, then we will proceed.

Sanskar: I have seen Shekhar uncle only once, but I have a good impression of him. But I also want to meet his daughter at least some time so that I can get to know her better.

Annapurna: We know that, son. That's why we are going to Kolgaon for 2 weeks.

Sanskar: Kolgaon? Why ? (with confusion)

Uttara: Badi ma, you are talking about Swara didi?

Sanskar: Swara? (whisper slowly)

Laksh looks at Uttara and tells her to be quiet with a gesture.

Annapurna: Yes, we are talking about Swara only. She is a kind, innocent, and pure-hearted girl.

Sujatha cuts Annapurna off: and the most beautiful girl as well. If you see her beauty, then you will be smitten by her.

Sanskar unknowingly smiles while listening to Swara.

Laksh (seeing toward Sanskar): Bhai, you appear content to simply listen. Then should we directly talk about marriage?

Annapurna: Shut up, Laksh. Don't tease him. Sanskar, your grandfather, was a childhood best friend of Swara's grandfather. Swara's grandfather also lived in Kolgaon, and Swara also lived with her grandfather only. As you know, we are family friends. We decided on a gathering of both families in Swara's house in Kolgaon. So that you can meet Swara and get to know her better. Is it OK with you?

Sanskar: I don't have any problems with it, Badi ma. When will we go there?

Parineeta (with a teasing smile): Aww. Sanskar, you are already so eager to meet her?

Sanskar (with a flushed face): It's not like that. I was just asking because I want to finish my work in the office before that.

Ram: We will go after 2 days. Is it convenient for you?

Sanskar: Yes, Papa. It's OK with me.

DP: Sanskar, you are coming to the office, right?

Sanskar: Yes, Bade Papa.

Annapurna: Are, but you came yesterday only. At least rest for one more day.

Sanskar: Don’t worry, badi ma. I have already rested. And I already have important meetings lined up. I can’t afford to miss work for one more day.

Sujatha: Jiji, let it be when he has listened to us. Workaholic freak. Huhh.

Sanskar: Mom !!

During the night

Sanskar was busy with some work when his mobile rang.

Sanskar picked up the video call: Hello, how are you all?

Varun: Good day, Sanskar. I thought you forgot us after seeing the girl of Aunt's choice.

Neil: So are you even inviting us to the marriage or not?

Sanskar: Guys. Just stop talking nonsense. I haven't seen any girls till now.

Varun: But as per aunty's speed, you should have been at least lined up with 2-3 girls' talks.

Reva: Till now, which means you are going to see.

Neil: When, where, and who is the girl?

Kavita is getting irritated by their talks. (Any guesses why?)

Kavita loudly says, "Guys, please stop. You are being damn noisy."

Everyone becomes silent, but they all look at Kavita weirdly.

Varun: Kavita, we are just teasing Sanskar. What is your problem?

Kavita (composing herself): I am sorry. Actually, it's just... workload. Nothing else. Sorry.

Neil: Just forget it. But Sanskar, you didn't give an answer to my questions. Aunty will almost certainly get you married this time within 1 year. No, no, 6 months.

Varun cuts Neil's talk: We will do a lot of masti at your marriage, and on top of that, we want to see the girl who can make the rude, arrogant Great Sanskar Maheshwari fall for her.

Sanskar (sighing, looking at his over-excited friends): If you are all done talking, then can I speak?

Reva: Umm. No, I also have a question. What is her name? How does she look?

Sanskar: How can I answer all your questions when I don't know the answer?

Neil: What do you mean?

Sanskar: It's correct that my family has selected someone, but I haven't met her yet.

Varun: At least you will know her name, right? Or what is she doing?

Sanskar: I only know her name, Swara. She is our family friend’s daughter. But I haven't met her yet.

Kavita: Is she beautiful like me? Like fair skin, long hair, and a perfect body.

(What do you think? Is Kavita playing a positive or negative role?)

Sanskar (faking a smile at her): Kavita, I want to find my better half, not a model for my company.

Everyone started to laugh at Sanskar's reply, but Kavita felt insulted.

Varun: OK. Then it must be tiring for you. Go and rest.

Neil: But please update us with our Bhabhi's news.

Sanskar: Ok, ok. I will. Bye now.

All other friends: Bye.

Sanskar turns off the call.

Someone knocks on the door. Sanskar says, "Come in."

Annapurna enters the room.

Sanskar: Badi ma, you don't need to knock on the door.

Annapurna: But I have to get in the habit of doing that. I can't come directly into a married couple's room, right?

Sanskar (with a flushed face): "Badi ma, I am not married till now."

Annapurna: But you will soon.

Sanskar: Badi ma, why did you come here? You should have called me.

Annapurna: What’s wrong with If I came here. I want to discuss something very important about marriage to you and want to take your consent in something.

Sanskar: I am all ears, badi ma, and you don’t need to take my consent, you can directly order me; you know that, right?

Sanskar puts his head on Annapurna’s lap.

Annapurna while caressing his head: I know how much you trust us and love us, Sanskar, but marriage is something that should be solely your decision. You have to give your 100 percent in this relationship. It’s not about what your family wants; it should be what you want, who you want. Also always remember that it’s not your business deal which should go as per your rules, defined steps or desires. It’s good that you have an ideal personality for your future wife, but it may happen that God has other plans for you. It may bring a girl who has a completely different personality than you expect. I just want you to think properly before rejecting or accepting an alliance.

Sanskar: I know, badi ma. And you should be rest assured, as even though I have an ideal type of girl in my mind, I don’t know with whom I will get the right feelings that she is the one. And I will not take any decision in haste.

Annapurna: I believe that you are capable of making your own decision. Swara is a very good girl. We all love her so much; her pure heart has won our heart. It may happen that you will feel like we are pressuring you to accept this alliance, especially from Sujata as she loves her like her own daughter. But I don’t want you to feel any pressure, but I also don’t want you to take any decision in haste. We are going there for the whole 2 weeks; take your time to get to know her fully, to understand what you feel, and then make a decision.

Sanskar: OK, badi ma. I will take my time.

Annapurna: Okay, it's getting late; you should sleep. We have to go early tomorrow. Good night.

Sanskar: Good night, badi ma.

After Annapurna left, Sanskar slept, thinking about how his life was going to change if he accepted this alliance. Of course, he had agreed to marry, but he was also nervous. What if they are not compatible with each other? What if he makes the wrong decision? Even if he said he will not take any family pressure, he is already feeling pressure from them, as he also wants to marry the girl of their choice. What if she is totally different from his ideal type because he is smart enough to capture that his family is hiding something from him? The way his badi ma is asking him to not take any hasty decision, he is sure that the girl surely has a personality which he will not like at a glance. Thinking about all this, he slept, awaiting his journey ahead.
